* Honours bachelor’s degree in Applied Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Ottawa.
I was born in the tiny African city of Bafoussam, Cameroon, one of 32 children. My father died in 1991, when I was only 12. For a while I floundered, uncertain of what I was supposed to do, and feeling unable to pursue my dreams, which included entrepreneurship and technology. Fortunately I had a brother studying and working in tk in California, who, seeing my distress and recognizing my potential, became my mentor. He paid for my schooling and helped me secure a tk to study computer engineering in Canada. Through my studies I made many contacts and went on to work at IBM and Nortel. But while I loved the challenges of working for the big companies, at my heart was entrepreneurship, particularly involving Africa. I am a great believer in Africa. It is on the cusp of a major global economic boom but poverty and corruption hold it back. Like me, after my father died, too many young people are drowning with lack of opportunities to turn their dreams into realities. Nonetheless, the continent is so rich in not just resources but also ideas and innovation. I am excited to be able to take my experience studying and working in the west to help the visionaries transform not just their own lives but also their communities and countries.
I love to see businesses and people grow from scratch to greatness. Simply, I love people! Interacting with people, hearing their stories, connecting with how they think and how to work with them to achieve their dreams. I’ve been nicked named a people engineer. And I am proud of that! I greatly honour my connections and the trust people place in me and my expertise. To be trusted is a gift: a gift that needs to be treated with the utmost respect.
My Success Stories
I met my first business partner, Ray Kuate, while traveling in Canada with my brother Emmanuel. What came from the commingling of Ray and my minds, with extremely long hours of hard work, were Gourmandia.com and Vertamin, Inc. For three years we programmed, wrote, built, ate, and breathed Gourmandia and Vertamin. As partner, design engineer and computer engineer, I invested heartfelt devotion to the success of these businesses, which explore and reveal the masterminds behind premium video cooking recipes. To give an idea of our success, in less than 4 years we became, according to The New Yorker, #4 worldwide in the food vertical.
In 2012, wanting to turn my full attention to Africa, I co-founded HartNamtemah Inc., an investment firm. On a daily basis I received requests from African governments, entrepreneurs and individuals wanting business consulting services. HartNamtemah specializes in investing in African startups but I quickly found myself playing a mentorship role to the companies with which I worked. My interest in founding K10 CASA Consulting was born from recognizing the necessity to formalize the consulting I was offering through HartNamtemah and provide clients with more services, experts and expertise.
Some noteworthy startups I have founded and mentored include Njorku, a Cameroon-based job search engine and aggregator for African job seekers and Kiro’o Games, an up and coming video game studio in Cameroon. Last year Kiro’o Games launched its premier game Aurion, Legacy of the Kori-Oda, which, within a year, saw feature film rights being secured by Hollywood producers Chris Bender, known for Mulan, and Jake Weiner.
